KOUCHIBOUGUACIS RIVER 2014 – CONSERVATION, RESTORATION AND EDUCATION TOWARDS THE RECOVERY OF THE WILD ATLANTIC SALMON HABITAT

The education component of this project has allowed us to improve awareness and commitment towards the conservation of the Atlantic salmon and its habitat; classroom and on-site presentations were provided to two landscaping classes (about 30 students) from the local high school. The presentations provided information on the importance of riparian area management and fish habitat. The presentation also provided an introduction to different bioengineering methods.

Students and teachers have energetically participated in the restoration activities. During a few organized outings to the restoration site, the group planted more than 50 trees. The trees used for this part of the project were trees provided from the restoration site and bought from a local nursery.

This project was made possible thank to the Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnerships Program and the Atlantic Salmon Conservation Foundation
